Dear Students,
By now you have read 20 or 30 pages of your book by Andrew Clements. Tell me about the main character. Does the author make the character believeable to you as the reader? Describe the main character. Is the character a boy or a girl? Why do you think the author chose a boy or girl as the main character?
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Cochran

Thank you for inviting us to talk about our books. I can't wait to see what the students share!
I am reading Lunch Money
Greg Kenton is in 6 grade and he likes money.
He likes money, drawing, and sometimes plays outside.
I think he is believable because he is a hard worker and has older brothers. He is a boy.It makes a perfect sense beacause boys like a lot of money.
I'm reading Lunch Money. The main character's name is Greg and he is in 6 grade. I can see that he is a very good money maker. He has a lot of ideas to make money.
He is believable bacause he works hard, and he has dreams for the future to get rich.
The main character is a boy.
I think he chose a boy because us boys try to make something to something better...and we like money.
I am reading Lunch Money. The main character is Greg. He really likes alot of money,he doesn't like people taking away his money, and he is in 6th grade.
I think he is believable because there's alot of people that like money and go crazy about it.
The main character is a boy.
I think he chose Greg because boys really like money not like most girls because most girls dont care about money.
I am reading Lunch Money.
The main character of the book is a boy named Greg. Greg is thinking only about making money. He looks like the greatest salesman in the world and getting money is all he wants. He goes to 6th grade and plays sports.
I think thath hes believable becouse he thinks that he can win more money than everybody else.
I think the author chose a boy becouse he is a man and well he wants he wants it to be a boy because he was like that boy when he was little.
I am reading the Janitor's Boy. The character is a boy and his name is Jack Rankin. He has a special nose because he can smell everything.
He is believable because maybe it could be the author's son.
The main character is a boy. The author picked a boy because maybe this story happen to a boy and the story of the boy had alot of details and it was interesting.
I'm reading The Janitors Boy
The main character is Jack Rankin he has a very sensitive nose and his dad works at his school as a janitor.
I think the character is believable because maybe he is someone in the author's family.
The main character is a boy.
I think the author chose a boy because it would be weird for a girl to be a janitor.
I'm reading the Janitor's Boy.
The character is a boy. His dad is a Janitor. He goes to 5th grade.
When he was little he wanted to be just like his dad.
Maybe, because some authors put different names in their books but actually is the author who is the main character.
Maybe because he thinks girls wouldn't do that or maybe he's talking about himself.
I am reading The Janitor's Boy. The main character is Jack, he goes to 5th grade. His dad works as a janitor at his school. He has a sensitive nose.
Yes, he is believable because some people realy have a sensitive nose that can smell really good.
The main character is a boy.
I think the author chose a boy because the boys are kind of messy.
I am reading The Report Card.
The main character in this story is named Nora and she is not normal because she is like a genius because she knows everything even when she was a baby but in school she gets D'S and C's in her report card.
I think this character is believable because there could be a
girl or boy or even a adult that's a genius.
This character is a girl.
I think the author chose her because mybe the author knows someone that is a genius just like
Nora, the main character in the story.
I am reading The Report Card. The min character is not a normal kid. She is very smart. When she was a baby she started getting good ideas and she was getting really smart. Her name is Nora Rosa Rowley.
The main character is a believable person because she is very smart and intelligent.
The main character is a girl.
I think the author chose a girl so that he would chose Nora to be smart and a genius.
I'm reading The Report Card. The main character in the story is Nora. What we've read about in the book is that she gets bad grades mostly ds and cs.
Nora sometimes is believable sometimes shes just too weird. Like in the story she said that she remembers her milk when she was a baby, how it tasted and all of that.
The athor maybe chose a girl because usually girls get good grades and now girls are geting bad grades I think.
I am reading The Report Card. Nora the main character is smart and wants to be like everyone else. She doesn't care about grades. She can be a little weird but no matter how weird she is no one knows about it. She is special but doesn't like it.
I think the character is believable in the story.
Nora is a girl.
I think the author chose a girl because most girls are pretty smart and want to be normal.
The book I'm reading is The Landry News.
The main character is Cara she writes a story named The Landry News.
I think that Cara is believable because she's quiet and Mr. Larson won't belive that Cara wrote a story.
I think the author chose a girl because she would be a good character for the story of The Landry News.
The main character is named Cara Landry and she is very quiet. She doesnt really have friends. Cara is very talented and she writes the newspaper called the Landry News.
I think that Cara is believable because some peapole can be quiet and you can see in the story how she feels.
I think that the author chose a girl because he wanted to see what it feels like to be in the opposite gender.
I am reading The Landry News.
Cara is smart, she's responsible she likes to write alot because she wrote The Landry News.
I think that Cara is believable because Mr. Larson doesn't think that Cara wrote The Landry News.
The author chose a girl because she would be a good character for this book.
Mario,
It sounds like you identify with Greg. Also, even girls like money!!
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Cochran
Josue,
What are some ideas Greg has to get money? Do you think kids his age can really earn money? What kind of jobs can they do?
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Cochran
Jesus,
Oh, I disagree with you. Girls like money too!
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Cochran
Angel,
I think you are right. I think many authors write about what they know best. However, many authors also create wonderful characters that are girls even if they are men.
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Cochran
Yesica,
I guess you might say that Jack has a nose like a bloodhound. Let me know where Jack's nose leads him.
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Cochran
Valentina,
It's not so weird for girls to be janitors. Miss Millie, our school custodian is a woman!
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Cochran
Brenda,
You may be right. Anyway, the character sounds like a normal boy for his age, doesn't he. What kind of conflict do you think the character will face?
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Cochran
Brian,
Unless the author tells us, the reader really doesn't know why he chose a boy. I like your reason. Why do you think the author tell us he has a sensitve nose?
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Cochran
Belem,
Sometimes I wish I were a genius like Nora but I would want to get better grades. How about you?
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Cochran
Josue M,
Do you think that girls are usually smarter than guys? I would like to think so since I'm a girl! Anyway, can you predict how Nora will use her gift of intelligence?
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Cochran
Jaime B,
You have a really good point. It's hard for me to believe that someone can remember back to when they were a small baby although I have met a few people who claim they can. I wonder why Nora gets bad grades but is a genius?
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Cochran
Valentina,
I agree most people want to fit and have lots of friends.
Why doesn't Nora care about her grades? Does she have a hard time relating to kids her own age?
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Cochran
Jocelyn,
Do you know someone like Cara? Maybe quiet shy people can write about things better than they can talk about them. Do you agree?
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Cochran
Ana,
I agree with you. A lot of times I can write my feelings better than I can talk about them. What kind of things is Cara writing about in the Landry News?
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Cochran
Gabriel,
When do you think Mr. Lawson will realize it is Cara writing those things? Do you think Cara should be allowed to write negative comments about Mr. Lawson in the paper?
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Cochran
The main character is a girl Cara
she is a new student she writes
articles in the Landry News
she can't be real. I think
the author chose her because he
thought he wanted a character that is way different than the others.
